This is a Two-day online Workshop by Mark Donovan (MClinPsych MAPS MACPA)

Overview:
This online live webinar workshop introduces
participants to competency-based and reflective practice models of clinical supervision that have been widely adopted across the globe in professional training. Key elements of clinical supervision are discussed, including how to build a strong supervisory relationship, competencybased goal-setting, techniques for encouraging reflective practice, and use of
feedback and challenge in supervision. Interactive exercises via breakout rooms allow participants to practice the various materials covered.
DAY ONE
• Introduction to competency-based and reflective practice models for clinical
supervision
• Building the frame for safe and effective supervisory practice
• Frameworks and models to guide supervision
• Setting competency-based supervision goals
DAY TWO
• Addressing attitude and values competencies
• Managing power in supervision
• Providing feedback and challenge in supervision
• Managing difficulties in supervision
• Workshop evaluation
Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe the principles underlying effective reflective supervision within a competency-based approach to supervision
• Demonstrate skills in: creating a safe supervisory relationship, setting goals in supervision, using reflective practice to build effective supervisee skills and
values, providing feedback and managing difficulties in supervision
Methods/Activities:
The workshop utilises adult learning principles:
• Pre-reading of key readings and preparation of reflective material from
participant’s own supervisory experience (one page Notable Incident)
• Discussion of participants workshop goals and relevant previous experience
• Small group discussions of key concepts
• Interactive didactic presentation of evidence-based content
• Live demonstrations
• Experiential peer group activities
• Larger group reflections of key content and learnings from exercises
Presenter Details:
Dr Mark Donovan is lead-trainer and co-partner of the Reflective Supervision Team. Mark has previously worked in University and Health Service settings in Australia and the UK, and has over 30 years of practice as a registered clinical psychologist. Mark has presented at national and international conferences and workshops on a range
of topics over the past 25 years, including clinical supervision, mindful parenting, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and narrative therapy. Mark has trained supervisors as a Board-Approved trainer for the Australian
Psychological Society over the past ten years, delivering workshops in each Australian capital city on competency-based clinical supervision as well as offering
master classes to more experienced supervisors. Mark enjoys bringing workshop materials to life through interactive discussions, practical examples, live
demonstrations and skills practice.
Registration:
This event is open to SPS full members and non-SPS members who are practitioners of Psychology and practitioners in the mental-health sector. Participants should possess minimally, a Post-Graduate Degree in Psychology or Counselling.
