Objectives
1. Introduce SPS Code of Ethics to members.
2. Identify common ethical dilemmas.
3. Generate ethical solutions to these dilemmas in reference to SPS Code of Ethics, ethical
decision-making models, and literature.
Facilitators
Facilitator 1
Dr. Lohsnah Jeevanandam is a Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore, holding a
Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (D.Clin.Psych) from The University of Queensland and a BA
(Hons) from the University of Sydney. Her interests include professional ethics, intellectual
disability, and promoting sexuality education in people with developmental needs. An active
member of the Singapore Psychological Society, Dr. Lohsnah chaired the revision of the
Singapore Psychological Society’s current Code of Ethics along with other psychologists.
Facilitator 2
Ms. Cordilia Justin is a Senior Principal Psychologist at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore, with
a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Madras. She has extensive
experience in the special needs sector, working closely with children and families. Her research
interests include understanding the glass child syndrome, exploring parenting approaches
among special needs families, and studying autism. Additionally, she is an active volunteer with
the Singapore Psychological Society.
Outcomes
Understanding Ethical Principles:
Participants will be able to identify and explain the core ethical principles outlined in the SPS
Code of Ethics, including integrity, competence, and respect for human dignity.
Application of the Code in Professional Practice:
Participants will demonstrate the ability to apply the SPS Code of Ethics to various professional
scenarios, making informed decisions that uphold ethical standards in their psychological
practice.
Navigating Ethical Dilemmas:
Participants will develop skills to recognize and resolve ethical dilemmas, utilizing the SPS Code
of Ethics as a framework for decision-making in complex or ambiguous situations.
Reflecting on Personal Practice:
Participants will engage in self-reflection to assess how well their current practices align with the
SPS Code of Ethics, identifying areas for improvement and professional development.
Session Outline
1. Introduction to SPS Code of Ethics
2. Presentation of Ethical Decision-Making Models
3. In breakout rooms, participants will address an ethical dilemma (case studies will be
provided) alongside ethical decision-making models, laws/policy, and literature.
4. Big group: each group will share their thoughts.
5. Concluding reflective activity
