This event aims to share the contents of the Professional Practice Guidelines (Psycho-educational Assessment & Placement of Students with Special Needs) with Educational and Clinical Psychologists in practice as well as post-graduate students in the respective fields so as to better understand the changes made and the current guidelines. The Professional Practice Guidelines (PPG) was revised and the 2nd edition was launched in November 2018.
Associate Professor Mariam Aljunied
Associate Professor Mariam Aljunied is the Principal Educational Psychologist with the Special Educational Needs Division in MOE. She holds a concurrent appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor with the Department of Psychology at the National University of Singapore, and Research Associate with the University College London’s Department of Educational and Health Psychology. She is a chartered educational psychologist and associate fellow of the British Psychological Society. Dr Mariam has more than 25 years’ experience working with national schools in Singapore in the provision of assessment and advice for students with special educational needs (SEN). She has led several research and national level initiatives aimed to enhance the support for students with SEN, as well as build the capacity of educators and allied-health professionals in the area of SEN. Beyond education, Dr Mariam is actively involved in the social service, mental health and disability sectors. She is currently a board member of the National Council for Social Service, and has been a long-standing honorary consultant for several social service organisations, including the Autism Resource Center, Muhammadiyah Welfare Home, and Club Heal. Dr Mariam chaired the Multi-agency Workgroup that developed and revised the Professional Practice Guidelines for Psycho-educational Assessment and Placement for Students with SEN, which she will be sharing at this seminar.
