Professor Richard Arvey
For those less familiar with Richard he is a Professor at Department of Management and Organisation, National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School. He is also the Director of Centre for Strategic Leadership (CSL) at the School and a Fellow of the Division of Industrial/Organisational Psychology and American Psychological Association.
Dr Arvey has been active as an industrial/organisational psychologist for over 30 years. His areas of interest and research include the selection and placement of employees, employment interview and testing, discrimination and bias in selection and employment, job analysis, performance appraisals, motivation and job satisfaction, work redesign, training and development, and more recently, leadership.
Over the years, Dr Arvey has had more than 100 articles, chapters, or technical reports published, including his book titled, “Fairness in Selecting Employees,” which was published in 1979, and revised in 1988. He was recognised as one of the top 10 most published authors by the Journal of Applied Psychology and Personnel Psychology during the 1980s and 1990s. His research has been published in many journals including Organizational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes, the Journal of Organisational Behaviour and the Journal of Vocational Behaviour. Dr Arvey was awarded the Human Resource and Industrial Relations Land Grant Chair in 1998 and the Career Achievement Award from the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management in 2006. In 2011, he was presented the `Distinguished Scientific Contributions` award by the Society of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. He has also served on the editorial boards of several professional journals.
Synopsis
For this I/O Sig, Paul will be having a one-to-one chat with Professor Arvey about his lengthy career. The conversation will be wide-ranging and free-flowing covering Professor Arvey’s work both as an academic and a practitioner. The event is a must for all I/Os, budding and experienced alike and an event not to missed by those for a passion for our industry, how it has developed and what the future of I/O holds.
