Kai Chuen graduated with a Masters in Organisational Psychology with Singapore University of Social Sciences and Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) from the University of Wollongong, Australia. He is also a registered Occupational Test User with the British Psychological Society. He was previously a researcher at a local university and assisted in leadership research for the Singapore Public Service, spanning across several Ministries and Statutory Boards. His professional experience as an organisational psychologist also includes working with the Police Psychological Services Department (PPSD) in the Singapore Police Force (SPF), and a local start-up company that provides digital mental health solutions. This has given him insights into steering projects that marry psychology with innovative tech solutions – a potential growth area that can alleviate increasing demand for mental wellbeing interventions. Kai Chuen believes in lifelong learning and the importance of psychology, not only for the clinical population but also for the general population and workforce. On a personal level, he is also intrigued with the practice of leadership (e.g., leader-follower dyads, team dynamics) and workplace-related mental health (e.g., burnout).
Kai Chuen has been actively involved with the work of SPS since 2014 and has held various key appointments in the SPS: Vice President (Outreach) (2021-2023), Publicity Chair (2019-2021), and Founding Editor-in-Chief, Singapore Psychologist (2019-2021). He also founded the SPS Youth Wing – SPS’ strategic effort to connect with the youth population and to better represent their voice at the national level. He continues to serve with SPS as Vice President (Outreach) for a second term, where he oversees outreach efforts with and provides guidance and coordination to the Publicity, Public Education, and Research committees. Kai Chuen spends most of his free time at the zoo with his wife and three-year old daughter. He also enjoys photography, indie films, and a good cup of coffee.
