Vision: The Promotion of Human Well-Being in Singapore
Mission: To Advance the Research and Practice of Psychology in Singapore

Dear Members of the Singapore Psychological Society,

Thank you for the trust you have placed in me and the Council as we begin this new chapter together. It is a privilege to continue serving alongside a dedicated team of professionals who care deeply about the future of psychology in Singapore.

We live in a time of rapid and complex change. Since the pandemic, public awareness of mental health has grown, and so has recognition of the important role psychologists play across society. Yet, this moment also brings fresh challenges. Technology is transforming how we work and relate. Regulation is reshaping the structure of our profession. And the line between sound psychological science and popular misinformation is becoming increasingly blurred.

In such a time, SPS must remain both steady and bold. Steady, in anchoring our values of ethical, evidence-based practice. Bold, in adapting to new realities and shaping what comes next. As the professional landscape continues to evolve, SPS must not only respond. We must lead.

Our Society has come a long way. Over the past term, we have deepened our engagement with youth and early-career psychologists, activated collaborations across ASEAN, formalised partnerships with educational institutions and healthcare unions, and strengthened our voice in national conversations. SPS has grown in visibility and credibility, becoming a trusted authority in psychological science, mental health, education, and policy.

But we cannot rest on these achievements. Ahead of us lies the urgent task of preparing our profession for regulation, supporting our members through transition, and ensuring that the standards, identity, and values of psychology remain anchored in Singapore’s context and needs.

We must also turn outward. As other professions and platforms, from wellness apps to pop-psych influencers, expand into psychological domains, we must reassert the value of rigorous, ethical, and compassionate practice. SPS must continue to be a Society that the public can turn to with confidence, and that our members are proud to be part of.

This means evolving our work to reflect the realities and diversity of our communities. It means strengthening our internal capacity to serve members more effectively. It means amplifying credible voices in a noisy world and advocating for those too often left on the margins.

The work ahead is significant. But our greatest strength lies in our people, our volunteers, our students, our researchers, and our practitioners, across hospitals, schools, communities, workplaces, and private practice. Each brings with them knowledge, integrity, and heart.

It is my hope that SPS continues to be your home for professional growth, for belonging, for advocacy, and for hope.

Let us move forward with purpose and courage, holding fast to our belief that psychology, at its best, can transform lives, build bridges, and contribute to a more compassionate society. Let us be the united voice of psychology in Singapore. Let us raise the bar, not just in how we practise, but in how we serve.

Sincerely,

Adrian Toh
