Effective clinical supervision is one of the primary ingredients in helping mental-health practitioners serve their clients, as well as grow in their professional skills. Experienced supervisors therefore also need to continue building on their supervisory skills, to remain effective and relevant.

This webinar workshop reviews the basic components of supervision, locates reflective practice within a competency-based approach, establishes a clear frame for reflective practice, outlines methods for providing feedback in supervision, and then leads participants through experiential exercises via Zoom break-out rooms to consolidate learning into everyday supervisory practice. This webinar also considers best practice guidelines for providing supervision via telephone/video conferencing (teleconferencing).
Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of the webinar workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the principles underlying reflective practice within a competency-based approach to supervision
- Demonstrate establishing a frame and role induction for reflective supervision via video platform
- Describe tools for providing feedback in supervision based on best-evidence
- Demonstrate alliance building and maintenance skills in supervision via video platform
- Demonstrate providing reflective supervision, including mindful consideration, consolidation and providing feedback via video platform
- Describe best practice guidelines for providing supervision via teleconferencing
The activities for the day-long workshop will include:
- Discussion of participants workshop goals and relevant previous experience
- Interactive didactic presentation of evidence-based content
- Small group discussions of key concepts
- Live and video demonstrations
- Experiential exercises via ‘Break-Out’ rooms

An additional facilitator (Helen Donovan) will be available to assist with any IT issues experienced on the day, and to manage the break-out rooms.
