Nathanael is a Lecturer at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), where he teaches courses in performance psychology and lifelong learning. Prior to his academic appointment, he worked as a sport psychologist at the Singapore Sport Institute, supporting Team Singapore athletes in their mental preparation for major games and international competitions. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the National University of Singapore (NUS), a Master of Science (with Distinction) in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Loughborough University, and a PhD in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the National Institute of Education (NIE).
His research spans competitive anxiety, coach burnout, smartphone addiction, and the use of technology in sport psychology. Nathanael has published over 15 international peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has been recognised with multiple research and teaching awards. As the Public Education Chair of the SPS Council, he is passionate about growing public interest in psychology and nurturing the next generation of Singaporean psychologists. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, playing and watching all sports (especially rugby), and never turns down a good chess match.
